Jim Connell of Craftsman Media, a Gurnee marketing agency, interviewed Attorney Robert Monahan, on the “Craftsman Cafe”. Connell’s business is located at 1559 St. Paul Avenue in Gurnee and can be reached through their website, www.craftsman-media.com. Connell’s interview series includes a number of interviews with local business owners, politicians and public officials in an effort to shine a spotlight on the local community.

Robert Monahan, a Lake County native, attended Carmel High School, the University of Chicago and the University of Virginia Law School. Monahan practiced finance law and insurance defense in New York City for 9 years before moving back to Lake County with his family in 2009. Monahan has a Gurnee practice concentrated on personal injury and wills, trust and probate.

One challenge Monahan found in starting a solo practice was getting his name out to the community. He got involved in local community groups such as the Rotary and the Lake County Bar Association. Additionally, Monahan did some presentations on the law at a local library which proved very successful. This led to Monahan starting a radio show on legal topics 2 years ago.

The radio show is called “Everyday Law” and is broadcast twice a month on WRLR out of Round Lake Heights. Monahan usually has a guest lawyer on each show covering a wide variety of legal topics. The episodes are also available as a podcast.

In addition to his radio show, Monahan has started a local cable access television show. Monahan produces a new show each month and it airs every Monday evening. Like his radio show, “Everyday Law” on television features a guest and explores a different legal topic. Monahan’s mission with both shows is to demystify the law for ordinary people.
